Interview with Van den Berg: Reimagining Design with Purpose
I’ve always believed design is language
Interviewer: Today we’re joined by acclaimed art designer Van den Berg, known for blending minimalism with emotional storytelling in both digital and physical spaces. Thank you for being with us.
Van den Berg: It’s a pleasure. I’m always happy to talk about design, especially when it’s not just about what we see, but what we feel.

Interviewer: Your work spans from product packaging to large-scale installations. What draws you to such a wide range?
Van den Berg: I’ve always believed design is language. Whether you’re designing a perfume bottle or curating an immersive space, you’re speaking to someone — you’re inviting them into a conversation. The medium changes, but the intent doesn’t.
Interviewer: You often describe your approach as “silent rebellion.” What does that mean?
Van den Berg: It means challenging norms without shouting. For instance, in a world obsessed with excess, I often choose restraint. Or in corporate environments where everything is slick and safe, I insert something raw — a texture, a shadow, a story that resists perfection. That’s rebellion, but quiet and considered.
